Self Publishing
Rather than going with traditional publishers, could one self publish a game? By this I mean actually bringing the game to box yourself, not online distribution or selling copies out of your house. Partnering with a distribution network, marketing company, etc, and doing it all your self. This of course would only be possible with outside funding, but given that, would it be possible?
Thanks,

When you have money anything is possible. ;)
It all depends on how much we're talking about.

Yes it would.
There have been countless threads discussing this topic. I suggest you search back through the previous threads for more details on the process. However, its safe to say that unless you have a lot of cash you aren't going to do well at retail. Publishers spend millions on marketing (often more than the actual game costs to develop) so that the customer knows about their game. There are more games in the market than the retailers can display so, given the choice between games that have a million $ marketing budget and one that doesn't, which will they give some of their limited space too?

It doesn't go into that much detail, but if you haven't done so, try taking a look at this forum's FAQ.
