Heh, I'll be sure to do that.
"I have the coolest idea for an MMORPG, but..."

Don't we all? Make sure you have the resources to create the game before you start anything serious, there are different resources, programmers, for example, modeler, and does not have to be only human resource, but also can be a way to host the final product on a server that does not break a budget :)

Anyway, good luck, hope you find that which you seek.
Im tired of the Rating System (As alot of you are), please rate me down.

For sure. I won't jump into a project that I don't have the resources for. That's the only reason it's such a loooong term goal. Because I can't do it until I'm able to.

What do you mean by Elite game?

And remember what I said... From the description I gave, it just seems like any other game. I didn't share the aspects of it that make it unique.

I had the same thought, it sounds like a MMO version of the classic game Elite. It's not an accusation of lack of creativity; it's like saying Diablo is a Rogue-like game or a RTS is based on Dune II; since Elite is the genre-starter it's more of a way to categorise your game.

Have a look at Elite, it might help you with your game design ideas. There's probably a freeware port of it that runs on a modern computer around somewhere.
Its interesting that people get so secretive about their ideas. Everyone thinks they have the next Tetris, only to post things and find out it's been done before.
Point and case, the OP didnt recognize Elite. Thats not a bad thing, just makes me wonder if his gameplay is unique when he cant compare it to other games out there.

Definitely a sign of maturity that you arent trying to start on the project right now. Learn more and rise up the ranks, but keep the dream alive.

Heh, I wouldn't say I think I have the next Tetris, but I think it would get a good amount of sales going if it was made.
But like I said, I'm only secretive because it feels kind of weird posting my ideas on a forum for everyone to see. I'd rather make a text MUD as a simple version of the game later on. That way there's no mistaking the credit, and I think it would help a lot for me to fix any flaws there would be.

As for rising up the ranks, but keeping the dream alive... That's exactly my plan. =)

you ppl coddle him to much. a MMO isnt trivial for experienced programmers, so why should you be able to pick it up? thats like saying you are learning painting so you can do the mona lisa.

start off small and forget about your MMO's implementation. dont forget where you want to go in life, but dont expect to be able to write a playable MMO without alot of experience.

baby steps.

try implementing life, tetris, various simple games first. then maybe you can figure out simple client/server stuff.

In the computer games industry, good ideas are dime-a-dozen, but good implementations are rare. In order to be successful, a game must have that intangible "fun" quality*. The core concept of the game is only one part of what makes it "fun". Things like artwork, script, voice acting and mechanics and stability also play a big role. A good idea alone is just not going to cut it.

*The other option is to milk a franchise like EA or Blizzard, or make a demo for your rendering engine (iD) but of course you have to get their first :-)

I'm not sure if you've been reading my posts or not, but I'm taking baby steps for sure. I am going on small step at a time before I think about putting my ideas for this game into motion.

why dont you just make the mmorpg now? cuz by the time ur at the age to become a programmer there might not be video games anymore...there woudl besoemthign completely new probably. anyways why dont you go get soem books and read upon gaem design...or just go buy that realmcrafter thign and teach yoruself
