Hey all Yea, first post to this forum. Basically I have been really interested in doing my own tracks, you know, really bass heavy stuff. My mate has been DJing for yonks now and he has seriously woken up an interest (hes gonna show me how to mix properly with decks just for a laugh [smile]- it seems really fun) and I just want to play around with sequencing and things on my computer. I have been told good things about the EJay series (bearing in mind I am below novice in this [wink] and I just want something basic and not too expensive). I have tried out demos and stuff but I was wondering, since I'm pretty dark side, which package would be best for composing hardcore. I assume its techno ejay (since it is a subsection of techno) but I need confirmation or a recommendation of another package. Thanks in advance -moco
It all depends on what kind of music you're interested in producing. When you say bass heavy, are you thinking about doing drums n bass type music? Or going more the Trance or Techno route?

Propellerhead's Reason comes bundled with a very wide variety of samples that you'd find useful when creating the former mentioned type of music. If you're looking for something a bit less expensive, you might want to try FL Studio (Fruity Loops.) This is a pretty basic software package for beginners but it supports VSTi and DXi plugins so you can purchase professional softsynths for use in techno or trance production. See Crispy's stickied post above about Fruity Loops. If you know what you're doing in FL, you can acheive some pretty decent results.

Professionals these days tend to use more, well .. professional software suits for music production though (Cubase, Reason, Logic.) These are great, but cost a bit more.
