Can you say Spin offs!!
Spinoffs you see them all the time on tv. When a producer can't think of any good idea for show that take a short court and take characters from a popular show and place them in a whole new environment. So why not games? Just for fun why not post your very own idea for the trailer/pitch for a video game spin off.
"When you first met Gorden he was battling for his life in an alien infested research compound. When next we saw him he was single handedly defending the earth for an alien onslaught. And now this fall Gorden faces his greatest challenge ever. As he tries to tackle the problems of every day life. Full-Life comming soon to PC near you!"

On of the best game -> TV "spinoffs" is the Futurama episode where Fry helps Pacman fight of the space-invaders. Classic.
Mario had Luigi, DK, Wario, Bowser and Yoshi. All of them starred once at least in their very own game.
Sonic had Tails, Knuckles and Dr. Robotnik, and all of them has starred in their very own game.
What about a Metal Gear Zero: Complete Liquidation?
You would incarnate Liquid, instead of Solid, for once, and would live your secret agent's life, and would live the very adventure that would make you turn your back on your brother and your former life?

Yeah, Nintendo have been doing spin-offs forever (MarioKart, Super Smash Bros, etc.) and many other companies have followed suit.

I believe Nintendo did this for the sole reason that they were the games the people playing their console wanted.
My idea for a spin-off would be Meryl Gear Solid. A whole MGS game where you play as Meryl, between the points she encounters Solid.

[lol] NO! NO! NO! You've got it all wrong! "In the peaceful town of Mayberry, Barnie had a good life as a cop. But one day he answered an add for the facility at Black Mesa, and after the cloning accident, his life was turned upside down..." [smile]
Speaking of Half-Life, they did have some great game spinoffs. In Blue Shift, you really DID play a guard; in another, you played the soldiers you were fighting against. And in yet another, you played as two unrelated research assistants who supposedly helped Gordon start everything off (in multiplayer coop, which was SWEET!).
I think this works only because of the size and flexibility of the universe's premise, btw. If you have a small, tight setting, you quickly run out of room. But the mythos of Black Mesa is that it's this endlessly sprawling facility, which suggests that anything can happen.
Another vital aspect is strong characterization. If those marines and cops hadn't have been such a cool addition to the game, there would have been no Opposing Force or Blue Shift. (Notice that we have no expansions about the scientists?)
