Horror game idea
The movie The Cell always inspired me to make a horror game. What do you guys think of this idea? You are a guy in an insain assiylum trapped in your own mind, but the player doesnt know this, all the player knows if that he is this guy and a bunch of wierd crap keeps happening. The monsters in the game are actually people from his past, say he remembers his father spanking him alot and in the game he is beast that uses a leather belt and yells things at the player that his father would say. The areas of the game would take place from the guys past as well, you would be running through his house from when he was a child (I was thinking maybe the player in the game could be a child or different ages depending on the setting) He could be at school, or pretty much anywhere think of places that were scary to you as a child. The game wouldnt use conventional weapons, you would have to use anything you could find, such as if you see a chair lying down you can pick it up and hit the enemy with it, then pick up one of the broken pieces and use it, or use a shovel or glass bottle etc.. But anyways through the course of the game the player wouldnt know the ultimate goal just that he needs to get the hell out of here and hes looking for a way out. Later in the game maybe someone that he trusted as a child would explain to him that it was all really just inside of his head and he must fight to regain his sanity. Kind of like the movie Jacobs Ladder where all the crap that happened in the movie was really in his head right before he died. Anyways tell me what you think and share any ideas you have, I'm not working on this game currently just trying to get your guys creative minds thinking, and spread the creativity.
Check an old game called "Sanitarium".
You can find a good description at the Home of the Underdogs:

Working on a fully self-funded project
From what perspective is the game played?
Is it a story/puzzle (adventure) game like "Sanitarium"? Is it an FPS? If so then it would be remarkably similar to "The Suffering".
The concept of a man trapped inside his own mind. . . psychological thriller has been done and done, but it has the advanatage of not having been done for every genre and not having been done well for the third-person shooter genre.
I'd start with a basic idea that is more fresh, but certainly there is room for innovating this old horse.
Because it is not a very original idea, the value of the idea is in the details and innovation.
