themes games deal with (satire)
Hi guys and girls, Just a topic to list themes that games are particularly suited / ill-suited? to deal with. Peter-Pan-ness, Mario never ages and the game is always the same, so could games be a way to explore the wish for eternal childhood? Heroism, what is it to be a hero, do games explore real-life heroism? Actually they are closer to exploring super-heroism (ie. superpowers). With the extra-lives and quick-saves of games they don't explore what it is like to risk everything for something that you believe in. Living in the present?
Well the theme of Mario doesn't revolve around the fact that he never ages... that's more of a cultural thematic that we could apply to ourselves. None of us want to grow old. I'd say many of us have Peter Pan complexes before I said Mario did. I think he must suffer from sexual frustration though, cuz the last time I remember him saving princess toadstool all he got was a cake... didn't even get laid. That could be a theme ;)
Oh, and Pac-Man displays gluttony... extremely round, nothing but a mouth, constantly eating... his whole life revolves around eating! Theme of greed there.
