Who Are your Inspirations

Game composers: Koji Kondo, David Wise, Eveline Fischer, Robin Beanland, Nobou Uematsu of course - but really Koji Kondo and David Wise are the most underrated of these.

Rock (progressive or agressive): King Crimson, Rush (great band), Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Crush 40

All really great composers. I could go on forever listing, but I wont. Those are the top favorites I immediately think of, though there are many more.

Hey,

Maybe one or two that haven't been mentioned yet...

Hans Zimmer, and one song inparticular that I can't remember the composer, the Max Payne 2 theme. For some reason they speak to me.

Oh right. How could I forget Hans Zimmer. Danny Elfman is really good too.

Inspiration is a highly subjective term. It could mean that the person's music is so good that it inspires you to compose in a particular genre. Or it could mean you try to mimick their style.

true. I'm influenced a little more by Billy Joel and Toshiyuki Omori than ever before.
Well I will be creative and take the question as what artists have influenced my work (as in when I'm listening to them while programming [smile])

Artist (Influencing Music)

Trevor Rabin (Enemy of the State, The One)
Harry Gregson-Williams (Enemy of the State)
Hans Zimmer (Crimson Tide)
John Powell (Bourne Identity)
Danny Elfman (Spider-Man 2)
E.S. Posthumus) (Unearthed-thread here)
Rob Dougan (Matrix 1 - Clubbed to Death & Matrix 2 - Furious Angel)

CJM - Kärtsy Hatakka and Kimmo Kajasto did Max Payne 2 I think (found info online) I loved the music in that game!

my influences range from all over..

i listen to a lot of metalcore and death metal, a lot of jazz standards... movie scores galore (john williams, jerry goldsmith, etc.), MOZART, beethoveen, chopin, mendelssohn... a lot of jazz fusion as well... electronica can be very influential at times also...

it just keeps going
My influences are all over the place. I'd have to say I draw much of my inspiration at the moment from Howard Shore's works from the Lord of the Rings. The songs never bore me, which is very rare. I also draw some inspiration from the works of Haydn, Beethoven and Handel. Outside of classical alot of my inspiration is drawn from new age artists such as Enya, Kitaro and Mari Fujiwara and industrial/ebm such as Front 242, Front Line Assembly, Combichrist and Grendel. I add different variants of these styles to my music which generates a sound a bit different from others.
