Never be afraid of doing tasks you are not familiar with. Noah's Ark was built by an amateur. Professionals have built the Titanic.
You should never let your fears become the boundaries of your dreams.

Work isn't always fun. That's why they mail you checks every two weeks.
There's an old saying that you shouldn't quit your job until you have a new job lined up. It's very good advice, IMO. If you can sit on your behind while doing the work, I suggest you spend that time calling around for other positions.
I hear Google is still hiring :-)

IMO there's only one reason for the managers behavior - he thinks he can get away with it. I've heard of Altek which means it's a fairly big company. So, that means that you should write to the pricks manager and inform him/her of the behavior. If the company is at all reputable they will repremand him. Then one of two can happen his behavior/attitude will change or the stream of letter regarding him to his bosses from you and your co-workers will increase. If this doesn't work, you could and probably should sue the company for mental abuses. Well that's what I would do anyway.
This belongs in the general forum, but anyway. I'd say go ahead and quit if you don't like the management, but, as others have suggested, wait until you have something else lined up. It sounds like the perfect job to build up your programming/gamedev portfolio (you said yourself you just spend all day/night programming anyway), so use it to help you find a better job. There's no sense in quitting if you don't have anything lined up, especially if you have a job that lets you do whatever you want. I'd definitly inform the company of why you're quitting, though. Of course, if this guy is as big a tool as you say he is, chances are they're already aware of the problem. Still, it'll probably bring them one step closer to showing his rude ass the door.
Good luck on whatever you decide!
