Hi everyone! I'm a college student who has been writing music for years, and my passion has always been for game and movie music, and the thought recently occurred to me to combine the two. I will admit that I am new to the world of game developing, so I have just a few questions. 1. Where do I get started? Obviously game forums such as this are a good place, but where else? 2. Anbody have any good resources for this particular career path? 3. I have yet to find a midi to mp3 converter and I'm poor- does anyone know of a shareware/freeware program that would do it? 4. Anybody willing to "hire" a beginning composer? I would work for experience/mentoring/future references... Samples on request! Thanks in advance! Just Another Jen

To compose music for games (and movies) in this day in age is to be experienced with various digital audio setups, especially those involved with software sampling. The most popular sampler is Gigastudio, which has a strong online community in places such as soniccontrol.com and Northern Sounds where many professionals and amateurs in the industry gather to discuss various innovations and issues in digital music. A good place to start would be to research how samples can be used in conjunction with midi to create realistic music. There are also various hardware concerns, but I'm not too experienced in that sort of thing beyond my own setup.

mp3 is a kind of audio compression. What you really want to do is record your midis as a wave file (*.wav) and use a freeware program such as dBpowerAMP to compress the wav files into mp3.

Winamp does midi-mp3 conversion? I took a quick look, but couldn't immediately see how to do so. It's actually not something I'd use, but I like to know how to use all the functionality of the programs I have installed, so a quick explanation would be great.
