Make a game Very Popular
Hi.
I'm making a multiplayer 3d game, RGP, and I'll distribute it as freeware.
The fact is I want to make this game very known and popular, in a few time. I expect more than 1000 users in a month. For now, It won´t to make money.
How I do that?
Which download sites will offer it successfully?
I have to pay a fee for publish this game?( I have a poor budget for this)
Keep in mind that the expected user of this game will have a little knowledge of computers, and they don`t have to navigate so much to find this SHOCKING game.
Thanks for reply.

The only way to make your game popular is to make it good. In fact, to make it better than the other free games out there.
Go on the web. Download the available free demos and free games. Then think of the meanest person you know. Think about what he (or she) would say about your game when compared to those free downloads. If that mean person finds nothing bad to say about your game (the graphics, story, gameplay, installer, frame rate, ...) compared to the other available downloads, you have a good chance.
If that imaginary mean person has bad things to say, then you should probably do something to address those things before you attempt to take the world by storm. Or you can ship your game anyway, NOT expecting to have it be a huge success, and incrementally improve it based on feedback from the people who actually do try it.
No matter which way you go: you're going to have to do the work. There are no sites that will ensure a popular game for you -- that's the developers (i e, your) job.
The specific terms of various download sites are listed on the submission pages for those sites.

Ok. Thanks for your opinion.
It's true, that the game should be very good for gain a lot of people, and it must be offered to the right people in the right time.
But assuming that, if you develop a good free game, what strategies would you apply for asure its popularity? How do you promote a Free Game with Few money?
That's the question.
Really I don't know which sites offers Free Games, the good ones. Please suggest a site of your preference, where people usually go to (for example www.download.com) .

If this is an MMORPG, there are some sites that can get you almost instant traffic:
http://www.betawatcher.com
http://www.mmorpg.com
Possibily even http://www.gamergod.com/
But as said before, if you have a good game, they will come.
