Need quick Reply! Sound card what to get.
I'm going to run out and buy a new Sound card since My built in sound card is finaly not able to keep up =`(
I just upgraded to Sonar 4.02 and started to get into DXis and such and the sound card is just well... it sucks.
Anywho, I've always had a beef with Creative "owned TWO gold AWE64 cards" both went up in smoke. on two DIFFERENT systems =( but as it looks, there's not much else out there in the sound card review world other then a few turtle beach products. (using CNet for a review site)
So, I might have to break down after 5+ years and buy another SB product =( however, if I can I'd like to stay away.
Anyone like any of the sound cards bestbuy, circuit city, or Comp USA carry?
Comp USA carries the E-MU cards I know Creative is in with E-Mu now but I'm pretty sure they have nothing other then sharing the name in common or I could be wrong.
It's 3:30am friday night I should be heading out some time tomorrow in the afternoon.
Also, Is there any good sample/loop sites you guys could post links to?
Thanks!
unless you have lots of cash to spend, I would recommend an SBLive! (or 2 if you want 4 channel recording) with the kX project drivers (www.kxproject.org?). You can get the cards for about 25 pounds each and the kX drivers transform them into something very useful for audio (2.6ms latency ASIO, direct access to DSP chip etc...)
I'll admit that I'm a fan of the Audigy 2 Platinum sound cards, but I don't do the same kind of work that you do.

I second that. I have an Audigy 2 Platinum Pro and I couldn't say I am in any way dissatisfied with it.

After what Creative Labs did to ID, I'm never buying CL again.
I'd look into a Turtle Beach card, see if you can find any reviews.
The SB Live! was plagued with driver problems when it launched, that CL denied any acknowledgement of for years. It would crash while playing games that supported & used EAX (such as EverQuest I). This may have contributed to a lack of support for EAX in many games, and help create the situation where they found it necessary to threatened to sue ID over a doubiuous software patent but then worked out a deal to drop the suit if ID supported EAX2 in DooM III.

Audigy drivers are top-notch. Drivers for Live! are garbage, but can be replaced with kX drivers. Creative's sound cards are good, in some cases better than Hoontech's. And they are affordable. Ignoring that because of their industry-driven differences and cheap calls (I won't even mention nVidia or ATI (especially in one sentence with 3DMark...) at this time) is just plain silly.

If you require some additional assistance with the thing, just ask - I've had some self-induced problems with some functionality (esp. related to getting my keyboard working over MIDI) before and I could hopefully be of some assistance.
Otherwise, congratulations on a fine purchase!
PS. don't sleep on the remote, its batteries will drain. Then again, once they're flat, you can always pop one off your motherboard and keep sleeping on the remote. I know I did.
PSS. I suggest you take a look at the OSD and the functionality the remote has to offer - it was the simplest set-up I've ever seen and it can almost do anything I need (In my case control WinAMP and BSPlayer).
