If you had money to blow, what would you get?
A new trumpet. Or three. Yes, I'm pathetic...

$2000 to equip home lab
$1500 on books to expand my private library
$800 on Proper Laser Printer
$700 - waste on various fun stuff: Fully accessorized PDA, 4GB sd card, headphones etc.
$5000 is a very, very small amount of money, you cant really binge on it. I propose the limit be extended to at least $30,000.
I feel a bit out of place here...
Are you kidding? $5000 will buy you a state of the art software studio. It's nothing to scoff at in the least. Hell, I could cook up some nice sounds for $500.

I agree that for composition, software is where its at. For 5G, you could get or build a fantastic audio PC and have a ton left over for samples. I have the Quantum Leap Symphonic Orchestra and Stormdrum, and I'm really glad I spent the money on those instead of more hardware. The have some new ones out right now...Ra, which is tons and tons of ethnic instruments (not loops) that you can actually play, and Colossus, which is like all the sounds that normally come on a good keyboard, except they are all sampled from real instruments and have much much higher quality.
