I was playing Raven Software''s "Soldier of Fortune" the other day and I was intrigued as by how someone would go about modeling all the different elements in a game. I''m really new to OpenGL, so I did some reading and found that a lot of people use 3D Studio Max. I''m a student and can''t afford Max, but I got my hands on Metacreations Carrara 1.0. Has anyone ever played with Carrara? It''s a really cool program, and it sure is better than having nothing, but is it worth it? (By the way, NeHe''s tutorials kick @ss!!!)
Build your own !!! With help from cflakezone.com :-)

Try Blender (http://www.blender.nl/)... It''s totally free, it''s cross-platform... it''s as good as 3D Studio Max... if not better But it can be a bit hard at first... But you can download the pdf version of the first chapiter of a book on blender (ftp://ftp.blender.nl/pub/chapter-one.zip) ... It shows how to move in Blender and how to use a little bit of it... But it''s really cool

Good luck!

Get a student version of max. You won''t regret it.
Good packages all but none will let you animate the models. I recommend building your own. This allows for the most flexibilty.
Hey if it''s worth doing it''s worth doing right.
