The Split-Timeline Theory
Quantum theory says that they do indeed interact with each other. Also, im pretty sure that the origional poster was not looking for ways to write time-travel, I think he wanted to have a discussion about the possibility of it, none of which movies can help you with. Finaly he wasn't even discussing if time travel was possible, he was discussing the timeline split of the quantum theory and the matter involved.
Heheh... Theoretical science; always a fun subject. I suppose this would be a good place to get thoughts on one of the principles I was considering basing elements of my game upon. Here's the basic idea of it. Feel free to poke holes in it or completely throw it out the window if you like. Keep in mind, though, that it's just some sciency junk I made up for the game, and I don't believe it to be true.
As has been stated, more dimensions exist than the three we can normally perceive. Many of the objects and living things in our world also have components on these extra dimensions, and we only see and interact with part of the whole thing. Slowly, some people develop the ability to interact with these extradimensional components, resulting in various seemingly supernatural abilities. For example, imagine if a stick figure on a piece of paper realized one day that he could reach out of the paper, pick up the pencil on the desk, and use it to draw in or erase things on the paper. Obviously, in such a primitive and unevolved state, these abilities would, in general, be very limited in scope and would require a decent amount of conscious effort to utilize. Eventually, through studying these individuals, scientists begin to consider the possibility of creating machines to put these principles to use in places such as power plants (seemingly free energy) and weaponry. After numerous failures in reproducing these abilities in machines, some speculate on taking these people and using them as physical components of their inventions.
Part of the underlying themes of the game would be the moral implications of, for example, hooking a single person up to a sort of generator in order to provide sufficient electrical power to an entire country.
With all the weird stuff out there, I wouldn't be surprised if the idea has already been done... I actually got the idea while watching a show on PBS about string theory...

You aren't really putting the 'possibility' function to a more absolute use. While we have no viable means to create or destroy matter, you forget that there was a big bang, during which everything was created. It's possible that parrallelity extends even to that. Physicists tell us there is something like 10 to the 52nd power atoms in the known universe, well, that could just make us universe number 52. For all we know, there could be a 51, 53, and so on.
And, actually, Einstein didn't follow possibility theory, he was quite convinced that it was all clockwork. He dismissed the theory when it was discovered that the path of an electron around the nucleus was only measurable in wave possibility. Stephen Hawking later was quoted 'It was Einstein that was confused, not the theory'. In any case, its 'possible' to be too smart for your own good.

I was talking about different universes, not multiple dimensions of the same universe. There is a theory that states that new universes can be created from a universe, I don't know it's english name I could be something like "little-universes theory" but I'm not sure. Paul Davies talks about it in one of is books ("The last 3 minutes" or something like that)

You may want to check DK2, which is a cycle, by Frank Miller, which comes right after Dark Knight Returns. In this cycle, The Flash has been slaved to run forever on a mill in order to provide the USA with free electricity. His rescue by BatMan puts USA in chaos. Should he have been slaved forever? Should he have been freed?
Now, another note.
Imagine that your basic expanding universe is the result of a "white fountain", as has been proposed happens on the other side of a "black hole". Many black holes have been discovered in many places around our known universe. The other ones could be parasitic universes, or offsprings. But this would be very impractical, because in order to travel from one universe to another, you would have to go through the "black hole-white fountain" pinhead, experience and infinite pressure, and a modification of time as one might perceive it. And coming back the same way would be approximately as easy as a salmon swimming through the head of an industrial water power-cutter in the midle of a landslide in a volcano under a hurricane. Or close.
The most likely is that the FOURTH dimension, which would be like a memory of past movements, and you could dub "time" if you will, well this fourth dimension can be travelled. The only way to travel time is to alter the matter, and modify the position of basic elements of matter, and turn the clock back. You could get the electrons and gluons, muons, quarks and such to go back to their original position, and would get something in the state that happened to be its some time ago. But moving the WHOLE OF A UNIVERSE in time would be so energy consuming that everything would be extinct...
