Last night I signed on to the website eagerly expecting some new information on OpenGL information only to find a note that the site had been shut down. When I saw the note it felt like someone had hit me in the stomach so hard the wind was knocked out of me. This website is THE greatest programming website out there. And I am not simply talking about the best OpenGL programming website out there, but I am saying The Best Programming website on the web right now!!! NeHe not only posts very helpful tutorials but he also Explains them in such a great level of detail that EVERYONE can understand them VERY THOROUGHLY. On top of that 90% of the submissions to NeHe''s websites have full source code, and everything explained very well. About a year ago I completely gave up on coding, I was sick of lack of websites that are up to date and have useful information. Gamasutra.com had information but it was so convuluted you needed an interpreter to understand even the most basic concepts. Then I found NeHe''s site, it made OpenGL so unintimadidating it was kinda spooky. Not only that but He took time out of his day to update the site EVERY DAY. I really didn''t want to learn OpenGL at that point, but NeHe''s website made it so much fun and so interesting that I couldn''t help but learning how to do it. Thanks to NeHe today I have started my own business with a friend of mine coding our own Website. I can only hope it will reach the quality and popularity that NeHe''s website has achieved. I don''t want this website to go away ever. It means so much to me, it shows me that people can achieve their goals, and I have seen that happen from start to finish with NeHe''s website. We all know how negative comments and critizism can make you want to give up. But I really want to say: DON''T GIVE UP ON US NEHE, and DON''T GIVE UP ON YOURSELF!!! I think we all really need you, but we just have a hard time expressing it. You may get some negative responses on your path, but every truly great person has. I for one will always be here standing by NeHe no matter what crap is thrown in his direction, because this site and NeHe''s work is a principle I am willing to stand for and put my name too. I think a lot of us feel the exact same way. In fact I know it. The next time you get negative critism, just remember what Einstein said:"The value of a man resides in what he gives and not in what he is capable of receiving." Remember what you are giving us, and understand that this gift is something we all really treasure and value. If you give up, what hope do we have? Thank you for the post. At the time, I was ready to give up, not because I wanted to, but because everything is beating me down these days, I don''t think I could have had a worse year than this past year. The minute I took the site down, I was flooded with email, close to 1000 letters. Made me open my eyes I guess you could say. The site should be back online by now. In a week or so I will be posting some new content for you guys. I just need a break. Some time to relax a bit, focus more on my life, and also to sort out the problems I am having with fellow programmers. Hopefully get everything worked out so that everyone is happy with what this site has to offer.
