Digital piano and MIDI - can I go wrong?

Hello the readers of my first Music and Sound post ^_^ I have this digital piano (Yamaha Clavinova from around 1997). I know it can be plugged to computer via MIDI, but as I have no experience on MIDI (I only have tracking experience), I wanted to ask two little questions first: 1) Are there different kinds of cables used for MIDI (i.e. the one going from digital piano to the computer)? Or is there only one type? My Clavinova manuals (that describe the MIDI thingie) are far away at my childhood home, so I thought of asking you guys wether it's possible to buy "a wrong kind of cable". 2) Do all sound cards have a MIDI-in? Or do I need a specialized sound card to make MIDI music? Thanks for everything, -- Mikko
Most consumer brand sound cards have a "game port" on the back. Typically this is used for MIDI connections. The "right cable" to be is the one that fits your keyboard on one end and your game port on the sound card.
