importing from max 7 to max 6

hi can any one please help me?? im trying to import a file from max 7 into max 6 because my tutor at college has max 6 i exported it as a .3ds how ever i get the error message 'object has too many faces (more then 64k)to export' so it wont let me does any one know of any other way ? chers Ian M
More than 64k?!?

Try doing other formats that appear to be common to both. .x?

Or you could try to use Meshsmooth to lower the poly count....

Break it into multiple objects that are less than 64k, export, then import and re-attach all the pieces.
