OpenGL dev stopped ??
Hi all
I heard that the development on OpenGL has stopped ?? Is this true ??
Thanks
It could be possible because they are working on a DX like API along with 5 other companies that will be called OpenML and will be released for Linux & Windows. At least, that''s what I read. Not sure if it is true or not.

hi,
i was searching for openml and the stuff i''ve found may seem intersting..
"
OpenML will eliminate the need for professional application developers to develop different and proprietary programming interfaces for various media input and output devices. In addition, implementations of the API across multiple operating systems will enable portability of software applications. Extensions to OpenGL that handle compositing of multiple graphics and video streams will make it easier to enable the direct implementation of mixing 2D, 3D, audio, and video data to create effects in authored content. Other OpenGL extensions will relate to enabling high quality rendered output.

hmmm, I guess OpenGL will go open source, do you think this might spell the end for OpenGL against DX ??
I mean if development on OpenGL has stopped, then the technology for OpenGL has stopped, am I correct in saying this ??
Thanks guys

I''m just having a flick through the OpenML white paper on http://www.khronos.org, and noticed a slightly worrying fact.
All of the big names (3dfx, S3, ATI, 3Dlabs, Matrox, etc) are represented, but _not_ Nvidia? does this mean that drivers will be slow in coming (or not at all)? I certainly hope not, I mean to get a Geforce 2 quite soon.
Also, I didn''t notice any big name audio manufacturers, will this leave OpenML lacking there also?
Anyway, this white paper is from late July and is the first draft, so hopefully others will join, or maybe the issue will be resolved in other ways.
and in reply to phueppl1 this is a quote from the website -
"The SIG anticipates that the first products implementing the OpenML specification will appear in the first half of 2001."

Why don''t someone write to Nvidia and ask them about their opinion on OpenML? (Not me, bad english skills..)
