text based game model
I know mmorpgs are all the rage, but I was wondering, about a text based game, how it could support itself. One possible idea is through advertising for like an affliate program.
There was a good thread on GameDev a while back regarding this:

I've got friends still making money of advertising for low-overhead web-based MUD'alikes (usually some form of fantasy league style, rather than RPG environments). The key there is that while the revenue is tiny, their hosting-costs are close to nil.
I suspect there's also good money to be made from Mobile MUDs over GPRS; there's already business models in place to leverage a small fee of GPRS traffic. Let me know if anyone's actually tried out this.
