A couple days ago a man came to my school talking about apprenticeships..basically full time work and part time school. If you do well in the program you (I think) are guaranteed a job. The field the man was talking about (electrical tech.,electrical eng, etc) doesn't interest me as much as game programming though. The thing that attracted this D student was that GPA didn't matter..only what classes you've passed. Are there similar programs like this for someone wanting to be in game programming?
I certainly haven't heard of any such schemes in the industry. Most developers/publishers require you to have a education to relevant degree level. They will accept students on placement during a degree course but there aren't any companies offering the sort of on the job training of an apprenticeship. If you aren't making the grade at school you will have a tough time getting onto a decent CS related degree course and without that you will find it very hard to get into the game industry.

Thanks for the input.
I'm trying to improve the grades;
but even with better grades,
going for a CS degree seems out
of my monetary reach. Is my
wording correct?

*EDIT*: My post was one long
sentence. 0.o
