why would anyone want to use linux? windows is much better.

windows is more secure than linux.

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserversystem/facts/analyses/vulnerable.mspx

windows has no significant bugs that any significant number of users wants fixed.

Ok, AP before I make fun of you, I want to say I am LMAO, and that you are clearly retarded (your not on special needs are you?).

It would be nice to take some time out from your BASICA programming to learn some H-T-M-L.

BTW: have you ever used Linux? (just interested)

The first link, goes without saying (unless you are retarded).

The second link.

Bug reports are statistically, therefore actually, unimportant; If you want a bug fixed, you are (by definition) in the minority; Microsoft doesn't fix bugs because bug fixes are not a significant source of revenue; If you think you found a bug, it really only means you're incompetent; Microsoft spends millions each year convincing people that their complaints are groundless. Anyway, people only complain about bugs to show how cool they are, not because bugs cause any real problems.

WTF? This is what everyone complains, about. No Bug fixes. Bugs are the worst thing to keep in software, before adding new features (notice most OSS, have a stable and developer release).

PCWorld? I take it you do all your computer shopping at PCWorld?

And the last link, is the same as the first link, and at the top of the page, I see

Quote:

A study funded by Microsoft has concluded that it is cheaper to develop certain programs in Windows rather than Linux

A Microsoft-commissioned study has found that companies could save up to 28 percent by developing certain programs with Windows instead of Linux, the software company plans to announce on Tuesday.

Microsoft got in trouble for saying these things, because they are quite literally.. untrue, and retards like you believe them. And there is no one to challenge them.

I hope you find something useful to do with you life (like become a company manager .etc).

A study by microsoft which says Linux is much much better than our product!

We don't fix bugs!

PCWorld

Have you heard of sarcasm? ;) Either that or he is trolling. And you shouldn't feed the trolls. Tsk tsk.

If this little flame war keeps up I suggest the moderator lock this thread. It had useful information and I already posted what I decided to do some pages ago.
ok, AP im not going to waste my time on you. I suggest you review your facts (you are clearly not any kind of skilled programmer, and have no knowledge). If you did understand/know anything, you would know that Linux dominates the server and embedded market because of stability (all things said a thousand times). The only area Linux is not at the forefront is on desktops (due to the simplicity and friction).
did this some time ago (LFS 5.0) and it was fun, it took me about 3 full days to have a complete distribution (with KDE and all) but to be honest in the long term it doesn't pay, I mean it's a pain in the a** managing all the packages and sources and upgrading that's why now I'm on SuSE

i recommend SUSE! :)
Yes, LFS is definately an interesting experience.
I actually made my own liveCD based on LFS using grub, Linux 2.6.8.1, udev, hotplug, my own boot-scripts, complete with hardware detection. It was only a console-based CD, however :)

You do learn a lot if you give yourself the time to really understand what you are doing and why things are working/not working.

But I would not recommend having your own distro, unless you are getting paid ;-) Maintainance can be a pain in the...

LFS is very nice and I like it a lot - but for every-day work I prefer Gentoo :)
