Trying to setup a server in FC3
I recently installed Fedora Core 3 onto an old computer and would like to use it as both a desktop machine learning purposes, as well as be able to SSH into it, host files, etc...
I looked at some tutorials online about setting up some kind of server (I'm interseted in getting SSH set up, initially) but I'm still at a loss. One problem I ran into was that since I'm behind a router, the ip-address that I got when I ran ifconfig was local to my network -- I'm not sure how a computer outside the local network would be able to connect to an address. I could retrieve an ip address from the router itself, but I don't know how I'd specify that I want to connect to my FC3 machine.
Any tips about the above question or perhaps a good tutorial for a relative beginner (I know my way around Linux because I've used it extensively in class, but I'm not a guru by any means) for setting up a server of some type.
Thanks in advance!
