Very cool idea...

Just a suggestion, but I think you should have two different types of user feedback: Comments & suggestions, and Compatibility Problems/Bug Reports. That way, you can see if other people have been having a problem getting a tutorial to work very easily, without having to trawl through pages and pages of people''s comments.

Excellent idea, this.
One thing though davepermen, and I don''t mean to be rude or imply anything or anything, but are you really serious about coding this thing?
Because if you are not I think you owe it to the rest of us to say so, and let someone else have a shot at it.
I, for one, would be willing to do it
The point here being that there is no reason for anyone else to start doing this if you are serious about it (duplicate efforts and all), but I''m sure I''m not the only one here who would be willing to make a site for this if you don''t. Or lend a hand to someone else if needs be.

what about division of labour
split up the work?
everyone who thinks he could do something for it should hold his hands up

should reply

we wanna play, not watch the pictures

If that's not the help you're after then you're going to have to explain the problem better than what you have. - joanusdmentia

Take a look at the game dictionary system. There is a backend that goes along with it that a collaboration of people could have access to, since you already have accounts on Gamedev.net.

Could a system along these lines work for this type of project?

If you guys want something like this, email me at mike@gamedev.net . Who would maintain the archive and approve submissions?

davepermen: I would be willing to help out in this (but you probably gathered that already).
Specifically I can do HTML, java-script, CGI, Java (servlets and such), XML/XSL, SQL. I might be able to host the site as well, if that is needed.

Michael Tanczos: That sort of structure would probably work, but it depends on how much space each entry has. However it would be nice if something like a Q&A-section can be attached to the different entries. So that if someone writes a short tutorial, or article or some such on a subject it would be possible for readers to post questions to the author, and have the questions (and possibly answers as well ) neatly lined up beneath the main-entry.

I would be willing to help code the site. I am experienced in advanced HTML and java-script. I can start coding as soon as there's a definite structure that has been laid out. I could also help on design although I don't seem to have much of a knack for designing flashy web pages.

To anyone who''s serious about operating this site: contact me via e-mail. I''ve just been talking to some people about a similar idea to what''s being discussed here (although about another topic), and I think we have some ideas for a system that would work really well. If not, GDNet has a number of highly customizable software systems that we could give you access to. No point in reinventing the wheel.
