Hi, I have a question about texturing in 3dsmax. I try to texture a cylinder on the top, When I enable the FaceMap option in the texture window it looks good, but when I load it to my app it doesnt use the facemap option and it looks terrible. so how can I load an 3ds model with facemaping? hope you know whant I mean. thanks.

Face maps only work correctly when applied to quads. The top of a cylinder is composed of individual triangles, so there is no proper way to fit a rectangular bitmap to it.

You can try this: draw a circle shape and use the extrude modifier on it, then you have an option to select the capping method. Select 'grid' and the top of your cylinder will be made out of quads.

If facemapping looks ok in max, it should look ok anywhere else.
because facemapping in max only applys standard uvw mapping.

Only if you apply it as a UVW mapping modifier. Dont forget there's also the option on the material itself to set up face mapping.

What's probably happening is that your exporter doesn't take the face-map option on the material into account, so what you're going to have to do is apply a UVW Map modifier to your object, then use face-mapping through that.
Agreed, I forgot about the face mapping option in materials,
because I've used max so long you forget people might use
such options which you know to avoid :)
