I do see an issue with this map, although quite good looking, it strays too far from the hl2-look, and I recall seeing that one of the "rules" in the competition was that the maps had to fit into the hl2-world, city17, the citadel.. etc.. ruin-streets.. (and 800 physics-objects ;) )
I will still probably try this one out when it's released though :)
My entry for the HL2DM mapping contest..

cool :)
just make sure to backup your existing map ;P
I've had more than enough experiences in the past of "ohh this is the perfect thing to do" only to completly ruin my map.
I just don't want something to go wrong on my suggestion... :/
Yeah, I've been making backups almost daily. I already lost a good two days worth of work when I first started working on it, so I already learned my lesson :)
I actually already have the lightning working, and it looks awesome. Still working on the sound though.

Nope, I just read through the rules, and it didn't say anything about having to fit into the HL2 world. The only thinng it said about content is this:
4. Contest Entry Requirements. Each Contest Entry must consist of a map for a single level of Half-Life 2 Deathmatch created using Valve’s proprietary game engine, containing only textures from Half-Life 2, and submitted on a CD-ROM or DVD-ROM.
Just wanted to wish you luck in winning the contest, you deserve it! And pls post some pics of the final scene!
Bye now. Must go and listen to some heavy metal.

Yes indeed. I'm really quite interested to see it
And in three days (was it 3?) I guess we can then see it in action for ourselves :P
Best of luck. Even if you get your map onto just one server, it's always hugly rewarding.
I've only ever officially released one map.. Dispite making maybe 10.. yet somehow they still manage to creep out there and get into the hands of the community. It's a really wonderful feeling having other people tell you what they think it wrong with your map after having just killed them on it [wink]
ahh memories.
Maybe I should take up mapping again....
Thanks a lot guys :) I'll be sure to post screens of the final version..but I don't think it will look too different from what you see. I'm mostly working on the extra bells and whistles like lightning..and just working on the lighting and layout a bit.
I've released one map for Quake3, and despite the fact that it was my first released map ever, and not too great, it's still got like 500+ downloads since last september. Planetquake.com/lvl has to be the best mapping community ever.
I think my map might actually have a good chance of being popular for HL2DM, (opposed to an older game like UT2k4 or Quake3) because right now, there is a serious lack of good DM maps. You could download amateur maps all day, and come across maybe one or two decent ones..but I haven't seen anything totally professional looking yet. (actually I have, but it's a remake, so that doesn't count) Maybe they're all waiting for the contest to end like me :)
Edit: http://www.infosprite.com/members/W01f/dm_void0230.jpg (It took 231 tries to get that shot..i had to keep rapidly pressing the "take shot" key hoping it would strike soon, hehe
Got the sounds working, and after about 2 hours of tweaking, it sounds/looks/feels awesome if I do say so myself :D

The map looks awesome, I hope there's some FPS left to put some debris around... or are they reserved for indoor areas?
If you're having trouble finding cool HL2 maps so far, I have to mention that The Snark Pit is really heating up lately...

I found this old screenshot from one experiment on lighting...
this is the kinda of contrasting colours I was on about:
Just an idea, of course, I'd probably go for something more orange for your map, though.
The lighting looks kickass BTW :-)

Well I released it, so if you want to download it, check out this thread: http://www.map-center.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&p=40613#40613
No need for new screenshots since it would basically be the same thing as you've already seen.
Thanks for all the support :)

managed to find a server with about 8 people.
probably a good number more than you would want.
It was good. The map played well. The ladders were a bit of a disaster but otherwise it was great.
Got my own map sortof started. but knowing me I'll probably never finish it. And it's concept is probably too wacky anyway :)
