Part-Time Composer
With a love for both programming computers and composing music, I am curious about whether most of you are dedicated specialists or hobbyists; Are you computer programmers as well?
I'm planning on entering the game industry in software development, but I'd like to study music alongside CS so that I may do (free) contracting work for indie developers.
Your answers perhaps won't change my decision to study CS and music at my university, but would assure me that minoring in physics or psychology (for the purpose of boosting a game programming résumé) isn't worth giving up a love for music.
Thanks for your responses.
I work 40+ hours a week at my day job (food service manager/waiter) speaking of that today I Worked 10:30am-11:30pm I got home not to long ago "sigh"
I work with nest egg studios.com at least 30 hours a month and also my own music stuff as with a few other small music jobs.
If I keep picking up work like I've been in the last few months I can maybe start to think about working music full time.

I'm currently studying a Batchelor of Multimedia Systems (Games Development Stream) at Monash University, and I spend a lot of my free time coding for my hobby programming projects, so I guess you could call me a programmer. For a job, I teach guitar lessons. I also periodically play in the bands for local musical productions, in my local Symphony Orchestra, and in my own band (Veyr - a neoclassical-deathmetal band [wink]), and I also compose music both digitally and on paper.
So... I guess that makes me a hobbyist.
