Now obviously, theres no comparison. But say someone like me needed one lol. Ok, lets start with a background check. Age: 20 C++ Plain Code Skill lvl: 4/10 OpenGL Knowlage: -1/10 DirectX Knowlage: -5/10 Allegro Knowlage: 0.5/10 Win32 Knowlage: 3/10 Ok, with that itty bitty bit of knowlage, here is my question. Basically im not wanting to rush into 3d graphics, i want to stay 2d for a while, just because i like it lol. However! I do not want to spend 3 years havin fun with easy 2d allegro, and then want to go 3d and find myself fucked worse than a donkey in a frat party. If i go opengl or dx, which trust me, i dont want to learn via limitations; I will be buying a book. But just with c++ i want to learn some and get good information so i can make a good choice on what book and whatnot. Just like i did with c++ and i love my cpp bookie hehe. So, given said wants for small time 2d gaming and not a lack of expansion options. What can a man of my limited knowlage seek for an API. Im sorry, i KNOW this question has been asked a million times it just seems on every forum i search through for my post like questions, i do not find answers close enough to what i wish. Please help :)
Rank: OpenGL & Glut "Nub", C++ Freshman.
Allegro is fine. for 2D purposes. it gets updated often (unlike SDL) and is cross platform Mac, Linux, Unix, Windows. and can be nicely integrated with OpenGL when you're ready to go to 3D
