My First *worthwhile* Game Project
Yes, I started work recently on my *first* real playable (and fun) game. Me and my co-developer have finally gotten our DirectDraw skills to a point where we are able to do what we consider a project that will still be *fun* in these days of 32-bit 3D games. The *basic* ideas behind it are so:
Game Typearallax Side-Scroller
Layers:4-7(we are working off of four until the basic project is finished, at which point we start increasing it until we can''t code any more, or the RAM/VRAM requirements start eating us alive.)
Resolution:800x600x16*drool*
Setting:Dark Gothic Fantasy
Weapons:Various Swords, bow, crossbow, possible h2h, mebbe others
Mapping:Right Now We are working on this point. As the Code permits right now it will be basically 3 DDSurfaces, a Primary, Back Buffer, and an offscreen.
Scripting:A small amount of pseudo-script, nothing *really* neato, but we are talking about some special case situations in which we will have some neat graphical stuff happen*drool*
Monsters:Lots and Lots and lots.....
Story:Way too much to get into here....
AI:Only basic, except in some rare cases.
Sound:As of yet, we are still trying to figure out where to get sound files from*sigh*
Input:Right now, its all Keyboard, we are still finding design ideas to incoporate the mouse.(Hmm, mebbe "Abuse" style aiming?)
Anyway, that about all I have time to put on here. Please respond with ideas/comments/useful stuff.

All I can say is, up yours asshole. I didn''t think that the majority of gamedev wanted to read most of the backstory of a game, and monsters, well, take up so many pages of our design doc it probly isn''t funny. All I wanted to know was what you thought of the project itself, any ideas you had, and any hints from you if you''ve done a project like this b4. I hate to flame, but i think you really centered on the 2 things i left out of the brief version of the post rather than the other 80% that was made up of useful info.
Oh, and the parallax thing was my fault, i didn''t realize that gamedev autocorrects colon/letter combos and makes them smileys
If enough of you other people really find backstory and monster lists pertinant information, then mebbe i''ll post them.

R_T_S, sounds good, but the AP did have a point. I hope "too long to put here" doesn''t mean that it''s not good. IMHO, any story worth telling can be summarized down to two sentences, including your life story.
