River City Arena!!!!!!
I'm not sure how the whole MMORPG thing would work but an arena combat game a' la RCR would be sweet. You could have gang wars and stuff. You could even have a sort of capture the flag where instead of flags you have to kidnap the enemie's gang-leader's girlfriend.
River City Ransom kicks major ass. I used to play the hell out of that game. In fact I think I've mentioned it here before.
Yet another MMORPG game idea (River City Ransom)
That would be the only mmorpg that I'd pay $15 a month for...
River City Random is the best ass beating game ever, bar none.

YES! finally, somebody who has played it.

I liked RCR, too. But being realistic, It would make a really boring MMORPG.
meh, i dunno. Itd have to be done right. but anything short of perfection would be complete crap. Just like the live action Transformers movie commin up.

actually that sounds like GTA:SA in MMORPG mode.
but yeah River City Ransom as a MMORPG shouldn't be that hard.
it has most of the elements already there just make it... 3D.
hell you can take the original game make a 3D world and it'll work out just fine
What do you mean by 3d? Are you thinking a fixed perspective? I was thinking 2d would be just fine, but if you have a good idea about how to do it in full 3d, i'd like to hear it.

well what i meant was that you could recreate the River City Ransom world in a full 3D environment (sort of like GTA (pick a series)). have all the original functionality, shops, moves, etc. the only thing you'll have to do is alter the ending of the story (not everyone can fight the same last boss... can they?) and just have player starts from different locations and work they're up, exactly the way it was done in RCR (2D)
Great idea.
I'm a big fan of River City Ransom. That game never really got the credit it deserved. Lots of aspects of the original game would work well.
You had all the rival gangs constantly fighting for control of different parts of the city. You could have players make gangs, like a clan or a guild, and try to take on other gangs for control of their virual neighbourhoods.
For those who haven't played the game. It was a sidescolling beat-em-up style game, with allot of rpg elements thrown in. There were shopping malls between the various neighbourhoods, where you could buy books and food, and clothes.
There were different types of shoes that could help you kick better, and the books were mostly about different punch, kick and weapon techniques.
Also, the game was free-roaming with respawning bosses and thugs, and you got a password that you could input when you started a new game to get back your old character.

no, No, NO!!! No 3d! It needs to be duplicated in full RCR glory! If you made it 3d, it would just be another wannabe.
