Profitable Game Genres

I've had a completed engine for a while. It's simple but capable and contains a lot of mixed functionality (such that I could do a lot of differing things with it). I've been working on a top down shooter(placed in a comedic horror setting) for the last couple months, and just started to wonder,"is this going to sell?" What would you say the best selling independent genres are and any advice on selling a shooter? Klaus
The best selling genre is "good games". Good games are the ones that the developer enjoys making the most. Just developing something because you think that genre may sell is a mistake. By the time your game is done the market may well have moved on. Do what you enjoy and you will make a better game which will be more likely to sell.
