Finding Developers by Location (UK)

I'm currently in the process of applying for what will hopefully be my first programming position within the industry. I've spent a lot of time looking at developers' websites in search of vacancies but this is very time consuming and quite hit and miss in terms of finding developers in my part of the country (London and the south-east). Does anyone know of any resource that lists developers by region or has anyone else found useful ways of dealing with this problem in the past? Many thanks in advance for anyone who can help, RM
Unfortunately the only reasonable database I know is part of The Chaos Engine - unfortunately it is a members only web site restricted to those who work in the development industry. Not much use when you are on the outside trying to get in.

If I get a chance I will go through the database and grab some names when I next log in there. In the mean time check out the listing at http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/contractor_display.php#. I don't think it is as up-to-date but it is a start.

Happy hunting!
Thanks a lot for the links, I'll start taking a look. The Chaos Engine sounds interesting (great game too), if you did have time to find the names of a few London/SE based developers that would be absolutely brilliant but thanks for your help already.
not too good at the research part ResearchMonkey :p

Anyway devs in the London, SE area (off the top off my head)

- Lionhead
- Big Blue Box (LH Satalite)
- Intrepid (LH Satalite)
- Criterion
- EA (Chertsey office, UK HQ)
- Elixir Studios
- Sony (London & Soho Studios)

best place to look - the jobs page on www.gamesindustry.biz
