Finding work in game audio.

I'm curious, does anyone here have any experience in game audio? I'm not referring to home projects, but larger-budget ones (perhaps even triple A). This is a field I'm interested in, and I believe myself to be fairly capable of - I've spent a good deal of time honing my skills taking free request work, and I've written some soundtracks to low-budget games, but I would like to move up the ladder. I am attempting to be proactive in this regard by contacting numerous media channels about contributing music. Recently, for instance, I sent in a CD to the Weather Channel for use in the background of their "Local on the 8s" section, and I plan on offering music to Adult Swim as well for their bumper sections. This isn't something I'm relying on for a career, of course. I realize that it must be an incredibly difficult industry to break in to, so my planned major for college is looking to be a combination of business administration and information technology (ie. management information systems). However, music is a great love of mine, and I enjoy video games; thus I'd like to learn more about how I can find work in game audio. Thanks in advance. This might be a long shot, but I'm hoping someone here might be able to help me out.

I have seen you around various other forums (the GMC), and have also noticed your skills. If you really want to go Triple-A, then put together some sort of audio demo, displaying your complete talent, ensure yourself you are capable of doing it, and go look for game studios that are looking for you.

However, you could go other routes... Do you have any art talent? What about programming? If you have either of those, you could set up a complete game demo, and use it to show off which ever of your skills you want to show off. Then you pick a few game studio's you are interested in, and look what jobs they have open... If they have an artist job open, and you feel you could do that, show them your game demo, and point out the art, and, you might get a job as a audio guy, because they liked your audio so much ;)

Another way you could go, is a game-audio website, and you could sell royalty-free pieces of audio to shareware/commercial game developers. I hear some of the more successful sites do really well, and writing a good website isn't high-knowledge requirement if you know how to use a computer ;) and, even if you can't do it yourself, you could get someone else to for low $xxx...

Anyways, good luck regardless of how you go at it...

I have limited programming knowledge; I'm fairly proficient with computers as I've been working in IT for awhile, but I never really studied any major programming language to the point where I can do anything useful in it. I'm also not an artist at all, I can't even draw stick figures. Of course, I would say I am very skilled at game design (not just general design, but specific design such as algorithmic stuff), but that's a useless skill by itself. I also never really learned HTML; I can't fathom how anyone could possibly design all those tables looking at just text. I can't even design them with a WYSIWYG editor. Pathetic, eh?

I suppose I'll continue to do free request work in order to build up a portfolio and show my versatility, then, once I have a solid 6-10 pieces, start soliciting larger companies. It's worth noting that I also do other aspects of game audio; if someone wrote sheet music with a program but did not orchestrate it, I could do that; I could master things, do a limited number of sound effects (mostly ambient ones) and so forth.

For some audio, I will gladly make you a portfolio website with a web-based admin panel so you can easily add to it....

All you need is PHP/MySQL enabled webhosting..... Do you have AIM/MSN?
