Sharing a cdrom between windows and linux, or am I dreaming?
I can swear that I saw a project over at sourceforge that let you share a cdrom drive between windows and linux over network, but I'm suspecting that I've been dreaming beause now I can't find any clue whatsoever that any such software exists. Anyone else heard of this project?

You never mentioned exactly why you want to share a CD drive but you could rip the ISO images of the CDs you need, host them on a computer and then let the others mount the images (easy in Linux and Daemon CD for Windows is excellent). That's what I do so that everyone on the network has access to CD images without needing a drive or having to physically change a CD. If that's not good enough, why not spend a few pennies and just buy a cheap CD-ROM drive? :)
Heh, just plain old laziness. I wanted to be able to stash away all of my computers and just remote control them from my laptop. However, if I could get around the hassle of breaking up work in front of my computer to change disks, it would be even better. Sharing one cd drive between my linux computers is cake, but it's the windoze computer that messes things up..funny thing is that I'm pretty damn certain I saw something like that on sourceforge that let one use the actual device, not just the files, but I forgot to bookmark it as usual =P..but maybe samba is the way to go, I guess I'm able to summon strength enough to change disks whenever samba doesn't cut it [grin]
