I'm confused again. I'm looking at books on SDL, and came across this. According to all the negative reviews "SDL" is a pain in the kisser that tries to be too much to too many. Are they talking about a different SDL here??

What books? And "too much to too many"? Compared to what? ("include <windows.h>"?)

I personally like it, and it is pretty light weight (especially after UPX). Plus platform independence is always nice.

Must be a different SDL, maybe one of these:

I think there is some other SDL that has something to do with software, and that's probably all the books you're seeing. For example, "SDL: Formal Object-Oriented Language for Communicating Systems (2nd Edition)" comes up on a search, and that is NOT the SDL you want.

There are very few books on SDL, the Simple DirectMedia Library that is. The only two I know of are:

Focus on SDL by Ernest Pazera
Programming Linux Games by Loki Software and John Hall.

THAT was it. Ok, good to know. Sorry, as I did have a link to paste but it was the end of the day at work and I forgot, but that was the one.

I personnaly own the Programming Linux Games book by Loki Software and John Hall and, in my opinion, it is very good. Although the book is about Linux programming, almost everything can be applied to windows too. Also, it is available freely on the internet here and the listings are here (tar.gz)

hope that helps !
