I am looking for freeware music editors. I mainly need MIDI, but i could also use wave, mp3, wma, etc. Also, and good programs for converting between these types is also appreciated. Thank you.
You could try Jeskola Buzz (sp) or Anvil Studio. However, I would not advise going into digital music at all if you aren't willing to spend the money to at least get a good sequencer - my recommendation is FLStudio 4.5 for $100 - $150.

If you're into mod files, you might want to try ModPlug, it's freeware.
I know exactly what you need. I use a small simple program called Melody Assistant from Myriad software in France. It is amazing and it is only 18 dollars, download the free trial and see what you think. It has all the features of Sibelius or Finale, but it's only 18 dollars (US). Here's a link.

Oh did I mention it exports and imports from just about any sound format out there? And converts too!
