[voice] Evil Capitalist Declaration of War
From the GDNet Communist thread...
"This thread is infested with dastardly Communists--the scourge of all things civilized. We Capitalists shall never bow down to the inferior philosophy and irrational barbarity that the Communists endearingly uphold. We shall crush your so-called economy and enslave your pitiful existence. You will be assimilated. Resistance is futile."
Listen to the recorded transmission from the Empire of Capitalism (MP3, 0:34, 804 KB)
That thread has sparked my interest in voice acting and mastering the recording of speech... as well as sfx, etc. Tips? Comments?
* The voice sounds put-on by a young man rather than the rich voice of an older man he is trying to sound like
* The recording of the voice is thin and distorted (which may or may not be intentional)
* There is a constant noise in the background
* It could be a lot more intelligible
* The effects don't imply transmission, but rather a speech being amplified in a cavernous space
* The tail is cut off at the end

1. How old is 'young' and how old is 'older'?
2. Yep, intentional. See #5.
3. I can't do anything about that. It's really hot in my office. Fans are my friends.
4. What do you mean by "intelligible"?
5. Hrm, I want to duplicate the cheap loudspeaker effect like in the games: Hitman (intro/training), and Max Payne 2 (Chapter II). I haven't played MP2 in awhile, but I thought the effects in this MP3 were similar enough. I guess not. How would I create a similar effect with Soundforge?
6. Yep.

Try Phonotron 1 (http://www.phonotron.com) for vocal manipulation. It doesnt do you your cheap loudspeaker effect that you're after (though you can try the freeware Audacity I think for that) but it offers a lot of other stuff that game developers should find useful, and a hell of a lot cheaper than what you have to pay for as a VST plugin normally.
