i find it very hard to get a free host with that has good bandwidth, as i have once seen a 200MB/month bandwidth but cant find it anymore. because people like us need demo files on the site, does any one here use a good host with reasonable bandwidth/services? thx if u helpd :D

Start here. The better sites usually require you to send them an email and tell them why you want to put up a site, or post in their forums a certain amount of times, but once they approve your request, there's not much you have to do, and often no banners or anything are required.

If you don't want to go to the trouble of doing this, there are a couple sites I've found particularly nice, in terms of space and bandwidth, although they do have ads. Try TheFreeServer and MVHosted. TheFreeServer is flexible on where you put the ads, but it seems to have some downtime every now and then. MVHosted is a little more reliable, in my opinion. I've used these mainly for the PHP and MySQL features. If you don't need PHP and MySQL, you can probably find a better one at that huge list I provided at the top.

That's because free is generally not the best quality service or has limited options. You could instead cough up a measly $96 for an entire year of service with a provider like lunarpages.com

Free sounds great of course, and you can hardly argue with that, but it usually comes with some sort of drawback or limitation. Just my 2 cents.

After a lot of research I got mine from PowWeb, it is $7 a month and seems reliable so far (if you pay for 12 months in advance you get 2 free). They also alow 10GB a day bandwidth! The tools provided are also very good.

Very nice Trip. How long have you had their service? One thing though their website says 5GB per day and not 10GB? And the two free months are only if you register a new domain through them. Also some of the more advanced features like additional domain hosting they don't offer official support for, but instead point you to the community forums. Still for raw bandwidth though that's a hard deal to beat.

I have had it for only a couple of weeks so far - no outages yet. I registered a domain name with them - did not realise that was tied in with the 2 free months. Just did a check and you are right 5GB a day - my memory is not what it was :( Still considering most hosts I looked at were talking about 5GB or 10GB a month this was a good deal. I looked at loads of hosts and did a spreadsheet. The other ones that came out looking good were Netmotivated Standard and 4UHosting Plus
