hi, ive been doing a lot of reading around this direct sound. I want to create an interactive audio mixer and it looks like direct sound will let me do that. the only problem is, ive looked threough sites and features and resources and it all looks too complicated on somewhat fresh eyes. where would you suggest a beginner in this area look? could you recommend any books? if there is anyone out there who would like to spend some time teaching me id be extremely grateful thanks rik

The most useful part in DSound is a secondary buffer. Once you learn how to lock it to obtain a pointer to it's data, it all becomes clear. Of course, you need to know your way around digital audio theory to get some material to fill the buffers with (or simply load some wave files for practice, so you don't need to generate the sounds yourself).

I hope this helps to establish a mindset for working with DirectSound. Sorry for the lack of concrete material though ;)

EDIT:
I do recommend the DirectX SDK DirectSound tutorials - they are heavily documented and relatively easy to follow.

What part do you have problems with? I could "tutor" you here through the start :)
