Here is a main menu background I have been working on for my game... I'm a programmer and this is the first time I've used photoshop... so go easy go me. But I need some tips to make the picture look better in anyway possible. Comments, suggestions, anything. Thanks! I think it looks a little "washed out".

Your background is overpowering your text

try making the text be a little bigger, or stand out more. And that blue beta text against a blue planet totally makes the text dull.

Play with some different fonts and colors of fonts, and sizes

It hurts my eyes a bit, staring straight into the white area. I'd suggest shriking the sun/planets and offsetting them. Then, making the text white or gray against the black background.

I suggest toning down the sun, making it smaller, and yellow or pinkish instead of all white.

Then make the text some signal color. Hot pink, hot red, or something like that. It has to contrast with the sun, though.

I think it looks really nice as a start. Yes, I would tone down the whole background, fade the alpha values if you can. The make the text MUCH larger - think the "Far Cry" logo. Big letters, faded background. You want to advertise the game, not the sun.

Great job so far though.

I love the star background. However the big sun is way too bright. If you get rid of that sun and the planet maybe (just keep that smaller sun in the corner), that would look cool I think. Otherwise very nice!
