BEZIER SURFACES

I think that bezier surfaces are the LOD future, because we dont need to have in memory lots of 3d data and that stuff. In other hand, bezier surfaces are very expensive to calculate, so i want to know if anybody have another surface type like bezier, or an algorithtm that incrises the velocity. Also, i would like to know how i calculate the normals on bezier surfaces. Sorry my english Cya, i hope you can help me. PROgrammer
