I just can''t figure out how to use Quadrics to draw 2 objects: 1) half sphere - like a cap. 2) something like streach cilynder - I mean that the sides will be round like a cliynder and the middle will be like a cube. thanks.

I don''t think those shapes are supported by the quadrics set... so you''ll have to generate all the vertices yourself mathematically (or with a model). I can email you my code that generates various sections of a sphere if you''d like, I have it from when I made a pacman game (various sections were pacman).
