I was playing around with trying to sketch (manga style) the characters from my novel-in-progress. The problem is that they are supposed to be humanoid aliens with feathered cockatoo crests. I can draw the crests okay from the side, but I''m having troublewith drawingthem from the front (and simultaneously trying to express the characters'' personalities by giving them unique ''hairstyles''. Here''s the best version I''ve come up with so far: So here''s the challenge for you all: here''s a sketch of another character, with regular human hair. How would you draw him with a cockatoo crest, retaining the same attitude? (You don''t have to do the chibi version, I just have the two saved in the same file so I can''t show you only the realistic one.)

I don''t have time to try drawing anything. I would recommend you try the forums at conceptart.org... you''ll probably get better replies there.

Personally, I think you may be trying to hard to maintain what you think of as an ''appropriate'' rendering of the crest. (I''m guilty of doing this all the time with my more anthropomorhic characters.) The model character in the second image has a droopy appearance to me, and I would try to convey that dragged-down-by-life look with a droopy crest.
