Is there any place on the internet that just has an archive of sound effects that are free (or very cheap) to use in a game? I expected a topic like this to be stickied so i hope this doesn''t mean no such thing exists
Throwing "free sound effects" into google shows quite a few sites where you can download free effects for free.

The old addage "you get what you pay for" still applies, though. You''ll find that sound effects distributed freely online tend to be a pretty sorry lot.

Also, make sure that the person or organisation posting the sounds is legally entitled to do so. Unless specifically told otherwise, assume that any material distributed online is only available through the "fair use" provisions of copyright law. It''s one thing to download *.WAV files and use for personal enjoyment, but it is entirely another matter when you re-distribute the material in a commercial manner. Even if you''re not actually making any money in the proccess, you might still be risking legal action.

Take a look at Sound Ideas'' web site. They have a number of reasonably priced general sound effects libraries, such as the "super sampler" series.

I've never used any of these, but they''re on a thread at a forum I frequent...

www.sounddogs.com is another excellent site.

Please don''t just buy them , rip them down and place them in a game, though.
That''s lame. (unless you are assembling a temp set, then it''s just smart...)

Better yet, record them yourself.
Free and no legal ramifications.
