Alright, I''ve got an ASUS A7n8X Deluxe. A while ago I tried out Mandrake Linux, just so that I could get away with criticizing Windows (hehe...). But then I came to the problem of not being able to install the drivers for the motherboard. I tried WINE (or whatever it''s called), and it sorta worked, if you ignore the fact that it screwed with everything on the Windows partition and ended up leading to a re-format/partition/install. The video and sound worked alright, and, apparently, so did the ethernet. However, I never could get on the internet. Would this be a modem problem? In the ''devices'' thing (it''s been a while now, 4 or 5 months) it showed that there was a device labeled "modem" in the Ethernet port, but I couldn''t connect. I tried retrieving the settings from another computer (connected to the modem via phoneline) and using them, but that turned out useless. Now, having gotten a stable computer once again (for a while I was re-formatting once or twice a day), I looked back and wondered...was it the modem? Was it just not compatible with Linux? Was it something I did? For the record, it''s a 2wire Homeportal (something). Thanks in advance for any responses...I really did like the environment better, especially Gnome...even if I did end up switching back to the default one to get to settings easier. If I could get it working, I might switch over to it...bum bum bum.
