Xserver will never be stable. Its just a hacking grounds.

the extensions we develop on Xserver will be used in other servers, like Xorg also from fd.o, which is stable, and quite usable. (basically very similiar to xfree, but with license problems)

So fear not, you will get your compositing manager in your normal x server, someday.

hehhe, the next plan is to hack off the rendering backend and make the X server entirely in terms of OpenGL. It simplifies drivers and allows for more acceleration.

When I see alternative X packages in Debian Sid I''ll consider switching. Until then I''ll trust other developers to have decent reasons not to do so. XFree is a serious worry.
