Shareware
This isn''t really a game specific question but..
How much does it usually cost to get a company name to sell your shareware under? (This includes any legal hurdles)
I''m thinking of trying my hand at shareware. I wanted to know how much money I''d need initially to get started.

Well in the US, it doesn''t cost very much to incorporate and chose a name for your business. In my state it costs $50 per year. Registering a tradmark name can be a little more expensive. Last I checked it cost about $800 to register a tradmark name.
You should though, hire an approriate attorney to conduct a name search, so that you don''t run into legal issues later.

It''s free to be a sole proprietor, just start selling. If you want to incorporate you can do it for a couple hundred bucks, based on which state you incorporate in.
Thanks guys .
I think Im just going to start selling.
Would it be legal to place a logo and the like of a fake "company" name and take orders with your name?
For instance, say you place "X Productions" on the product.

Just sell some shareware and if people like it pay for a trademark name and start a buisness. Or you culd just go work for another shareware company or sell your work to them?
On Dexterity their is a large article about shareware.
