MIDI converted to a MP3. Is it possible? Help Please!

Timidity is probably your best bet.

Think of it this way, the MIDI file is like sheet music, it dosn''t actualy have a "sound" associated with it.

All these options will slap some samples onto your MIDI file (which is basicly giving each note a sound).

The WinAmp option is basicly asking your sound card to give each note from its internal sound bank (or synth, if it''s a crap sound card), just the way it would if you played it back, and then just recording the outgoing audio.

Timidity, IIRC, will just give the MIDI notes a sound in the same way your sound card would, but dosn''t go through your sound card. If the WinAmp method introduces noise, or you''ve got a crap sound card, use this method.

ModPlug will give you more control, but is harder to use and you''ll probably have to go sample hunting. If you have a SBLive card or other SoundFont card (or a sound font bank sitting around for some reason), you can use these samples (they are the same ones your sound card uses, and are generaly pretty good).

If you know what you are doing, the ModPlug option will give you a much better sound than Timidity or WinAmp would, but if you don''t, I''d stay away unless you have a lot of time to spend fiddling and learning.

ModPlug also has the advantage of being able to output MOD files, that are likely to be even smaller than the MP3 (because the MOD format is like MIDI, but the file also contains the relevent sonuds to play).

And then there are a whole lot of comercial programs that can do what ModPlug can do (import midi and give it pretty sounds) with ultra-high quality (eg: I use Reason). These, however, cost a small fortune, and I wouldn''t recomend getting them until you are skilled with the ModPlug method.

Indeed. Learn to read. The URLs for Timidity and MODPlug have been posted.
You can convert any ''sound'' into a wave or mp3. I did do a tutorial on this (Audio Ripping) but my site is down at the moment. Basically, you change your Audio Properties to record what is being played and then actually record it with a program like Goldwave or Cool Edit.

Everyone disregarde any of thos other converters. Go to Itunes and Download Itunes. Its Number 1 . Convert to wav then conver wav in to MP3. I think you can do MIDI into MP3. It took like 1:00 to do it. And it works great!
