USB Not working
I''m trying to get a USB camera working, however it, nor any of my other USB devices, are showing up in usbview. I''ve tried all sorts of devices that used to work, but all give the same non-working results. I tried loading the usb-storage module, but that made no difference. Here is the output of dmesg when I try to connect the camera.

It''s just a wild guess, but maybe you could use the usb-storage module to download the pictures from your dig. camera. do a ''modprobe usb-storage'' and watch the logs (/var/log/messages iirc) for new entries about usb. There is a chance that your usb camera will function as an emulated scsi device that you can mount and get your pictures from.
Is that what you want to do or am I missing the point?

I''m using kernel 2.4.20.
The usb-storage module doesn''t help, or change things at all. No devices, not just storage are recognized. My tablet isn''t, none of my camera''s are, my USB Drive isn''t, nothing.
Here is something I just found in my logs, searching doesn''t turn up much.

define recognized.
lsusb shows nothing connected when there is stuff connected?
you''re supposed to interface to cameras via userspace tools like gphoto2, btw.

Dude...I''m not a newbie. I''ve been using linux for 5 years now, I just never really used USB much, and it''s always "just worked" before now.
When I type lsusb just the hubs show up, not the connected devices.
When I say recognized I mean that the computer actually shows that there is a device connected. Right now when I connect a device the logs show a status change and that something was powered on, but it never registers a device. I was able to connect my camera to my laptop running Red Hat just fine, it didn''t have a driver to match my camera but it did show up int usbview.
My laptop is using usc-ochi, and my desktop is using usb-uchi. I don''t know if that matters but when I try to load usb-ochi I get errors. I don''t know if that means anything, USB isn''t really my hat.

I didn't imply you were a newbie.
but you still show a slight misunderstanding. The kernel almost never knows WHAT you plug in, only that it IS plugged in. There are not many kernelspace USB drivers, so the only thing I have that the kernel ever recognizes is my printer. Thus, "not recognized" _could_ be answered by saying "so? it shouldn't be."
stuff not showing up in lsusb, on the other hand, is interesting, and is what you need to say explicitly what you say its "not recognized."
after spewing that, I can say: I don't know. If it doesn't show up in lsusb when you connect something, then there's a problem. Ask on linux-kernel, maybe?
edit: Just noticed that you mentioned 'usbview', apologies. I didn't notice because I've never heard of this program.

usbview is like lsusb, only it''s slower and displays with an X window.
