Bitmap font for SDL in windows?

Regarding lesson 13, does any one knows how to do the same sort of thing for Windows using SDL/OpenGL, in linux you would just use the the glx but I don''t think it is possible or very easy to adapt the windows code for SDL. would great if anyone can show me how.
Just because it is not nice, doesn''t mean it is not miraculous.
its probably best just to use a texture based font, that will be complient with all platforms
