I''m looking to make a demo showcasing fractals. I''m looking for suggestions and ideas. Most commonly it seems they are being used for generating terrain. Any one know any sites using 3d fractals for a cool purpose or have any ideas? Some possiblities I already have: terrian, tree generation, and 3d grass.
One thing you could do is generate 4D julia fractal (using quaternions insted imaginary numbers) then display 3D slices of it. The 4th dimension could be used as time to animate the whole thing.
OK, this is not usefull but it would look cool.

No, that is exactlly the kinda information i''m looking for. I''ll look up julia fractles.
I just remember another thing you could do. I saw this a while ago in some raytraced image, but simplefied verison might be implemented in real-time. You take 3D IFS fractal. The points you get represent balls(force centers) in metaball grid. Now render the whole thing as solid object... with some nice cube mapping You''ll need alot of poins with very small force(mass or whatever) and high density grid, so animating will be a problem. But creating a static object is not a problem.

Been away a few days,

Thanks darkwing, that metaball idea sounds cool (although I think I wana get somthing animated going).

The hard part is guess is getting somthing cool in realtime.

It''s also a lot harder to do it with geometry than raytracing
